On My Table: Flowers

I have had an abundance of flowers lately which is a little unusual because usually most of the flowers in my home come straight from my garden. But with this long summer there really isn't any flowers in my garden.
My lovely friend Nell (hi Nell!) gave me some of the most gorgeous roses from her garden and they were just divine, they smelt divine too and they reminded me so much of my Nana, she used to love flowers too and she always would have flowers on her dining room table and around her home from her garden. My Grandfather used to grow her roses and  all sorts of other flowers but I always remember him growing her sweet peas and it was so sweet of him because they used to give him hay fever and make him sneeze.
I'd also stumbled across these roses at my local supermarket and just had to treat myself!
The other night my hubby came home with another bunch of flowers just to make my day a little more pink! Oh I have been spoilt but it is always so lovely to be a little spoilt!!

Not perfect but still so pretty.

In My Garden

One of my goals for this year is to get a few more wicking beds in our garden. last year we built three only two of them are being used at the moment the other one needs to be filled with soil which I am hoping to do at the beginning of Autumn.
I am super glad that we went ahead with this type of above ground wicking bed, a few years back we dug one in the ground and it was super hard work. This has been much simpler and will be much easier to deal with in the future when we need to renew the straw at the bottom of the bed.
The wicking beds have be so fantastic for holding there water and so far I haven't needed to be worried about the beds drying out quickly even with the heat. There have been times when we haven't had to water them for two or three weeks, although this has be a mild summer here in South Australia.
We don't have a lot growing, I've only filled about 50% of the beds that I have now but we have had the beginnings of some harvesting which is always really nice. I managed to pop in some zucchini, cucumber, pumpkin, tomato, radish, rhubarb, onions and Blake happened to plant some corn seeds in one of the beds and they have started to produce corn, which is exciting.
We have also had the first fruit off of one of our fruit trees some lovely plums, there were only about 10 after the birds got to some of them but the ones we had were really delicious and a nice preview of things to come!
Its always so so nice to bring in something from the garden and cook it up or eat it fresh, its one of the best feelings :-)

On My Table

I've set up a little table in the space in my front bay window in our bedroom. And I've been really enjoying it, its a sweet spot to sit and write and look out onto our front yard and neighboring paddocks. and as a bonus its a nice little spot to have a little break from my boys these holidays.
So I picked some flowers from my back garden and put them in a vase and they have been on my table ever since. Along with some sparkling water, tea of course and some pens and stickers.
I love making life a little more pretty, the colours of the flowers are just so beautiful and vibrant.
So whats on your table today?
